"Faversham Mudflats" Original Charcoal & Wash Study
01 / Sourcing & Discovery
This study was sketched along the quiet, windswept Swale estuary, where the river meets the marshland. The artist watched the tidal waters recede, leaving exposed patterns in the salty Kent mud.
02 / Meticulous Handcraft
Polly used charcoal chunks salvaged from the studio's winter fireplace hearth to sketch the deep shadows, blending them with wash glazes made from local riverbed clay. The study is executed on heavy, handmade cotton rag paper and framed in light ash wood.
03 / Character & Living
Its minimalist, monochrome composition coordinates with modern interior spaces, adding a calm, organic texture that recalls cold estuary air and coastal tides.
