Our Origin & Spirit

Heirlooms Forged by Hand

Nestled among the Kentish cherry orchards, Wild Meadow Studio is a silent rebellion against mass production—a collaborative forge, wood bench, and weaving loom dedicated to preserving legacy crafts.

Chapter I

An Intentional Space

Wild Meadow Studio was born in a weathered timber barn in Hernhill, East Kent. Founded by goldsmith Polly Griffiths, the studio began not as a commercial store, but as a quiet personal sanctuary to escape the rush of modern manufacture.

Polly believed that an art object—whether a raw silver band, a hand-thrown clay cup, or a planished oak bench—holds the sensory memory of the room and the environment in which it was created. That is why she built the workbench surrounded by wild fields, where the only sounds are the rhythmic stroke of the file and the wind in the branches.

Over the years, the studio has grown organically into a shared workspace. Today, Polly collaborates with a close-knit group of resident Kentish artisans—goldsmiths, wood-turners, weavers, and painters—each sharing a deep reverence for raw materials, historical techniques, and the beauty of natural aging (wabi-sabi).

Chapter II

"We measure time not in digital notifications, but in the heat of the flame and the refinement of the edge."

Our studio morning begins by gathering wood for the hearth and opening the double timber doors to let the orchard air clear the forge. We brew organic chamomile and lavender, set our tools, and check the furnace.

We refuse to rush. The planishing of a silver cuff or the rush-weaving of an oak stool is a slow, meditative dialogue. Every mark left by the hammer or the chisel is left visible—an authentic signature of the hands that shaped it.

This physical dialogue with raw metal, timber, and clay connects us to generations of makers who came before us. We work exclusively with recycled eco-silver, ethical SMO gold, and salvaged fallen timbers to ensure our craft respects the earth.

Our Principles

The Bench Standards

Every heirloom leaving the Hernhill workshop is guided by a rigorous commitment to material integrity and local ecology.

01 / Material Provenance

Local & Salvaged Sourcing

Whether gathering Kentish beach flint, wood-ash for ceramic glazes, or fallen oaks from nearby estates, our materials carry a physical connection to the landscape.

02 / Sentiment Preservation

Gold Remodelling & Upcycling

We melt down scrap family gold and reuse old gemstones, reshaping dry, forgotten memories into new, wearable legacy rings right at our bench.

03 / Zero Mass Casting

Forged, Not Molded

We do not utilize factory casting molds. Every ring is cut, soldered, and hand-hammered from raw wire, giving each item a unique weight and internal structure.

04 / Ecological Respect

100% Recycled Precious Metals

We work strictly with certified eco-silver and Single Mine Origin (SMO) gold, guaranteeing zero mercury or mining exploitation in our supply chains.
