The Sussex River Swallow Locket
01 / Sourcing & Discovery
We recovered this silver locket near Lewes along the River Ouse in Sussex. The front is hand-engraved with a swallow carrying a leaf—a classic late Victorian symbol of hope and returning home.
02 / Meticulous Handcraft
To restore it, we removed the original simple loop bale. Polly hand-forged a sculptural replacement bale from 18ct green gold, modeled after a real hazel twig. This gold-and-silver mixture highlights the details of the original engravings.
03 / Character & Living
Designed to hold small mementos, photographs, or dried petals. A heavy heirloom piece that links the hand-engraving of the Victorian era with the raw, natural details of our studio workshop.
| Locket Dimensions | 3.8cm x 2.8cm |
